The story of the Maison Hector family business starts with Jean, a young boy who grew up surrounded by the smell of homemade marshmallows made on the family’s candy stall. The candy stall would move from town to town, following the travelling fairs and carnivals popular before the War. Later on, Jean-Claude, Jean’s son, would develop the business and specialise in croustillons and waffles, the recipes for which still remain a well-kept secret. The Hector family eventually settled down in Saint-Malo. The travelling days were over and it was time to embark on a new culinary adventure.
Today, Jean’s grandchildren, Thibault and Morgan Hector, have inherited these sweet memories. Like their grandfather, they believe in hard work, quality and the drive for perfection. With their love of good food and gourmet tastes, they have made their Saint-Malo restaurants, Le Café de l’Ouest, Le Lion d’Or and La Licorne bywords for food that is both traditional and innovative, accessible to everyone and served in a unique atmosphere that only the “pirate city” can provide.
